Southwest Veterans chamber of commerce
announces CHARITABLE contribution TO
Operation Freedom Bird
The Southwest Veterans Chamber of Commerce (SWVCC) announced today that Operation Freedom Bird is one of two recipients of its quarterly Veteran Charitable Contribution Program. SWVCC will contribute $500.00 to Operation Freedom Bird to support its local programs.
SWVCC is a 501(c)6 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Veterans, Veteran owned and supportive businesses, and organizations that support our Veterans and their families. Larry Hellman, President of the Chamber, said, “We are very pleased to be able to make this contribution to Operation Freedom Bird to assist it in accomplishing it most worthy and important mission. The care of our Veterans, especially those scarred while serving their Country, is a duty we all share. This was one of two awards we are making this quarter. With continued support from our Members, sponsors, and contributors we will continue to support organizations such as Operation Freedom Bird for years to come.”
Operation Freedom Bird is an Arizona 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides a unique healing journey and therapeutic program aimed at helping combat veterans from all wars continue the process to heal from symptoms of PTSD and unresolved grief/loss. Founded by a decorated Vietnam Veteran Air Force and America West Captain Pat Lynch, it was named after the “Freedom Bird” flights that transported those serving in Vietnam back home when their tours of duty in the war zone were completed. Annually for the last 27 years, Operation Freedom Bird has transported approximately 50 Veterans on this four-day healing journey. The airplane and crew is provided by Southwest Airlines, but all other expenses are shouldered by Operation Freedom Bird, and a small donation from its participants. Founder Pat Lynch said “these journeys and our Veteran support would not be possible without financial support from individuals and organizations such as SWVCC. We deeply appreciate their kindness and recognition of the value of our work.”
